More than 130 years of construction history!

Generation after generation, the Vrolijks family has produced builders and craftsmen. In 1895, Theo Vrolijks’ great-grandfather worked as a bricklayer on the restoration of Muiderslot Castle. His son also skilled himself in traditional masonry and grounting and in turn passed on his passion for building to his son Wim Vrolijks. After working as an employee for a certain period, he founded Vrolijks Bouw- en Montagebedrijf in 1976. Under the inspirational leadership of Wim Vrolijks, the construction company soon grew into an indispensable partner in aerated concrete construction for major Dutch contruction companies. Meanwhile his son Theo Vrolijks was the youngest construction foreman in the Netherlands, working for construction company Wilma (now part of Royal BAM). At Wilma, Theo was in charge of the construction of one of the most iconic government buildings in the Netherlands: the Ministry of VROM in The Hague. Theo immideately recognized the advantages of precast concrete and in 1995 decided to join his father to set up a precast concrete construction division.

In 2008 Wim passed the company on to his sons, who changed the name to Vrolijks Prefab Betonbouw. Theo Vrolijks worked for a period of 12.5 years as operational director, being responsible for all ongoing projects. Many wonderful projects have been build during this time, such as The Edge, Euroborg Soccer Stadium, Pontsteiger, Ziggo Dome, Maxima children’s hospital, but also the enormous KPMG head office and countless housing projects and distribution centers.

At the beginning of 2020, the next generation was in the starting blocks. Together with Theo’s son, Johnno Vrolijks, the establishment of VROCAST Precast Construction became a fact. A new challenge, towards realizing the future!
